Brilliant Stillness in Movement

With deepening Ji-gam training, Ki flows strongly in the body, manifesting as powerful, martial-art-like movements. We call this “Dahn-gong.” In freestyle Dahngong by Ilchi Lee, movements manifest themselves differently from person to person, without a set framework.
Even in freestyle Dahn-gong, however, certain specific forms appear, depending on the flow of Ki. These forms were organized based on the principles of Kigong training into the five stages of Dahn-gong. Training begins with the Basic Form (Gi-bon-hyung), and then progresses gradually, according to the practitioner’s level of training, to Ki Accumulation (Chuk-ki-hyung), Belt Vessel (Dae-maek-hyung), Conception and Governor Vessel (Im-dok-maek-hyung), and Microcosmic Circulation (So-ju-chun-hyung) forms.
alignment and develop basic physical strength for other Ki-gong training to take place later on. Once the framework of basic postures is established by the Basic Form, we develop good energy through the Ki Accumulation Form. When we have accumulated sufficient Ki, we move on to the advanced stage of Ki circulation training. Once energy circulation is developed through the Belt Vessel and Conception and Governor Vessel forms, we progress to the next form, Microcosmic Circulation. In this book, we introduce the Basic Form and Ki Accumulation Form, which beginning and intermediate practitioners can use for training.
