All cultural paradigms are products of their particular time and history. What arose out of one particular time or situation should not continue to govern what may be a totally different time and situation, especially when such blind faiths lead to real suffering and dilapidation.
\What sets the likes of Jesus and the Buddha apart is that they utilized their enlightenment for the betterment of their real-world community. Higher enlightenment is not just finding your True Self, feeling it as part of the Cosmic Soul, and knowing that everything is one. Higher enlightenment is coming back down among the masses and sharing and preaching that knowledge to the entire world. Unselfish and giving enlightenment is what True Love is all about. The highest form of enlightenment is in sharing. In teaching. In giving yourself to others selflessly so that others might experience what you have. It is in making a positive change to your immediate world.
Do you think that the Buddha wanted to live in his physical form till he was past eighty years old and go through the hardships, the pain, the hunger, and all the unpleasant necessities that aging brings? Don’t you think that he was tempted to just elevate himself into a higher plane of existence once he became enlightened? Of course he was.
