Using acupressure and other types of holistic medicine may help to unlock the human potential for self-healing, according to a new study conducted by a team of Swedish researchers.
They found that providing surgery patients with acupuncture treatment while anesthesia is being administered and having them wear acupressure wrist bands for 24 hours after surgery significantly reduced the presence of side effects.
For the study, which was published in the journal Acupuncture in Medicine, the researchers tested these holistic methods on a group of 154 children who were receiving surgery for gastrointestinal illnesses.
Following the surgery, the participants who received acupuncture and acupressure treatments were nearly 20 percent less likely to experience vomiting. The researchers said that the study shows clear benefits to more holistic approaches and that more medical professionals should consider these techniques.
Ilchi Lee has said that health plays an important role in a person's mind-body-spirit balance, and that holistic treatments like this may be helpful.
