Personal change is a process that can take time

Oftentimes, when a person decides they need to change something about their life, they want to see results overnight. Patience may be a virtue, but it is one that few people have when it comes to seeking lifestyle improvements. However, recognizing that personal change is a process may lead to better results.

Countless individuals stop going to the gym after just a few months when they fail to notice any immediate benefits. Others give up meditating when they find it difficult to sit calmly for more than 20 minutes or so. However, these individuals do not realize that these are temporary setbacks and that the real payoff comes through perseverance.

Nothing great was ever accomplished overnight. Real benefits take time. Spiritual growth exercises may feel difficult to stick with at first, but once a person makes a concerted effort to incorporate them as a part of their everyday life, these techniques may become easier to practice on a daily basis.

Most people instinctively know that they will only gain a benefit from a practice if they stick to it. Yet this rarely stops them from getting impatient and failing to follow through. Learning patience is the key to personal change.
